Poetry & Reading

We are very proud of all our children who have participated so beautifully in our Performance Poetry Competition. Whether they made it through to the finals or not, they have all showed great courage and tenacity in having a go. Our finalists and winners showcased fun and inspiring performances. Well done!

Yesterday, the country celebrated World Book Day, designed to encourage a love of reading amongst children. As the number of children who choose to read is reducing nationally, we are working harder than ever to promote reading as a pleasurable and fulfilling activity.  Our annual Book Swap, lead by the Reading Leaders, was a huge success with most children taking home more than one pre-loved book. The chat and buzz around the books and the sight of so many children sharing their new book with friends on the playground was fantastic. Our whole school reading project has been a library of front covers and 'blurbs' representing every single child's favourite book. This is displayed in the foyer; there is such a variety of books and the excitement from the children as they recognise or discover books is lovely to hear.
