Stonehenge Class Trip to the Army Aviation Centre

The children in Stonehenge Class had the most amazing day at the Army Aviation Centre in Middle Wallop. We began the day in Hangar 5, where the children were thrilled to see the impressive Apache AH‑64E up close. They watched engineers at work, handled real tools, and learned how this powerful aircraft is maintained. Next came an exciting aircrew talk. The children discovered how an Apache flies, tried on the pilot’s helmet and vest (worth over £80,000!), visited the control room, and proudly received their very own pilot wings.

They then visited the fire station, where they sat inside the specialist fire engines, used the hose, and explored the building. After that, they went into the air traffic control room and were fascinated as they watched flights taking off.

The next stop was the Chinook hangar, where they asked fantastic questions and were amazed by the enormous blades of the CH‑47 Chinook helicopter. But the highlight of the entire day was a special Apache take off and flight demonstration that left everyone in awe. We are so very lucky to have had such a once‑in‑a‑lifetime experience.

This was a truly wonderful trip, full of learning, excitement, and inspiration. We cannot thank Mr Bennett enough for organising this unforgettable opportunity for our children.
