Live Orchestra 'Sea Stories' at Bristol Beacon
We had a wonderful opportunity to visit the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s thrilling & interactive performance for KS2 children led by award-winning composer and conductor, James Redwood. Explore the Orchestra: ‘Sea Stories’ featured material that fused symphonic music with the written word and explored how the oceans have ignited the musical imaginations of many. We heard pieces from opera, films and symphonies. Also featured was a specially composed participatory song, composed and led by James, and a body percussion piece created in collaboration with schools. Our recorder and ukulele players also joined with the orchestra for one piece. Through this inclusive event, the children learned to sing and perform with the orchestra, and were introduced to all the instruments that make up a symphony orchestra.
Experiences like this richly enhance our creative curriculum, giving our children the opportunity for a rounded and wide education. The children benefited from practicing and preparing a song; a rare chance to watch a live orchestra perform; singing with other schools and linking music with movement. It was an incredible experience for all. We are very proud of all the children, whose aspiration and joy shone, with exemplary behaviour and attitude. Thank you to parents whose support with the early morning prompt drop off was much very appreciated.
