Celebrating Poetry, Books and Reading

We are incredibly proud of all the children who took part in our Performance Poetry Competition. Every child showed great courage and resilience in performing so confidently and enthusiastically. Whether they reached the finals or not, every child should feel very proud of their achievement. A special congratulations to our finalists and winners, who delivered truly outstanding performances – well done!

Our celebrations continued with our aspirational Y6 Reading team leading World Book Day, where one of the highlights was our much-loved Book Swap. A big thank you to our generous families who took the time to search their bookshelves and donate a book (or even several!) to share. Your kindness made it possible to create a vibrant and exciting event. The children were thrilled to take home new reading treasures, and it was wonderful to hear the lively buzz of recommendations, discoveries and plans for future swaps. Many couldn’t wait to begin reading, enjoying their new books on the playground and back in the classroom.

Adding to the excitement, our bright and eye‑catching Yellow Brick Reading Road project celebrates an incredible shared achievement: every child each contributing a list, a drawing of their reading, or a photograph, to create a one‑day snapshot of all the reading our 152 children do in a single day. Each contribution along the road represents the time, dedication and enthusiasm shown by our pupils. The winding path symbolises our journey through stories, adventures and new discoveries, reminding us that every minute spent reading helps to build confidence, imagination and a lifelong love of books.

Our Wizard of Oz storytelling theme continues with the Touring Theatre visit on Tuesday 17th March, generously donated by the PFA from the recent fund raising initiatives.
