Bees, bats, birds and bugs
Eco-Schools is the world’s largest environmental education programme, empowering pupils to take action for a sustainable future. We’re proud to be a Green Flag School and part of this global movement. Our Y6 Eco Team leads the way by promoting simple actions that make a big difference such as biodiversity projects, sustainable travel and reduce‑reuse‑recycle initiatives.
This week we welcomed Mr Jameson, the Bee Man, who spoke to the whole school as part of their biodiversity campaign.
Eco Councillors share highlights from the engaging talk and their plans for the year: ‘We learned about the vital role bees play in maintaining healthy natural habitats, how hives work, and how we can care for and protect these important pollinators. Mr Jameson also brought along a range of fascinating beekeeping equipment, including a hive, inspection trays, a smoker and his protective suit and headwear, giving us all the chance to see the tools of a beekeeper up close. A huge thank you to Mr Jameson for such an inspiring visit! This year, the Eco Council is focusing on bees, bats, birds and bugs. We will be exploring how these creatures support local ecosystems and what we can do to create, enhance and protect their natural habitats within our school grounds and in our own gardens.’
RSPB Big Birdwatch In the coming weeks we will be taking part in the Big School Birdwatch. Families might like to get involved at home. https://www.rspb.org.uk/whats-happening/big-garden-birdwatch
